It's getting toasty in Tooele. Will be a nice night to race. Sign-ups are from 5:30 to 7:00. Racing normally begins after 8:00. Two reasons: (1) getting motos posted (we have a lot of respect for the women at RAD Canyon - they are really quick with registration - we're working to get there) and (2) in the past riders don't want to race until the sun goes behind the mountain...the starting gate faces the sunset so it is in the riders' eyes.

Track is getting good reviews. Last few weekends have had 17-19 motos. As always, thanks to Darrin, DP Complex managers, and Tooele County Commissioners for helping keep another track going for Utah riders. Volunteer help is always appreciated. Let them know at registration if you are able to help.

See you out at DP tonight!

Kids are more prone to dehydration than adults due to them having a higher metabolism, quicker respiratory rate, and quicker fluid losses. So far as hydration goes, water is definitely best for the kids. Same as in adults, too much simple sugars in a rehydration fluid might cause them to get a high blood sugar level for a short time, which is then followed by a "crash" where the blood sugar drops a bit and they get shaky or tired, and certainly drop in strength. In many ways this is more exagerated in kids because they don't store extra sugar as fat as efficiently as adults.

On the flip side, most kids don't have as much energy stored as glycogen and fat as adults, so through a race night, they will lose energy if they're just taking water.

The ideal thing for kids would be a lot of water and a steady amount of complex carbs through the race night with a minimum of simple carbs. Protein isn't as important in the kids as in adults. Caffeinated drinks, a supplements like creatine should be avoided in the kids.

If your kids are like mine though, getting them to eat right is easier said than done, especially with lots of nachos and churros and the concession stand.

thanks for the props guys, but my motivation for posting this is to inform people about what is going on. I know how sometimes it seems that there isn't anything happening, but there really is.....and I hope that me continuing to talk about things maybe will spark some interest or ideas from others.

Brent, I'm sure you can get all the flyers that you want from Ron. Go get 'em......I want to absolutely FLOOD the valley with information about Rad Canyon and BMX racing. I get great responses from all kinds of people when talking about BMX. If anybody's kids are in scouts, get some flyers and hand out to your troop. Have your kids take flyers and maybe a trophy to their class. Know someone that owns a retail store? get them to hang a poster and have flyers on their counters to hand out.

Speaking of posters, I have produced a poster that I am going to start getting into stores, rec centers, libraries, schools, etc. If you want to help get some hung up, let me know and I'll get as many as you want.

The key to marketing is multiple exposures to your product. The more times someone sees something, the more likely they are to remember it and actually seek it out.

We have attended both races so far and have had a great time. The track for this early in the year is very hard and fast. Much thanks goes to the staff at the track. The changes they made to the track have made it a blast. I think the young studs enjoy having 2 pro sections to air it out !! race one had about 21 motos and last week there were 17. Riding both classes is not recommended unless you are under 30 (My heart and lungs found that out the hard way)

I see that the cheap stuff was 3.55$ at my local station this morning! I will bet anyone that it closes in on $4 a gallon going into Memorial Day weekend. Have any of you faithful readers changed your driving habits because of this?

Last week I finally started to commute on my bike. I have an old MTB I put slicks on, a bike rack & lights front & rear. I leave my house a little after 6am & get to work without breaking a sweat in about 25 minutes. It takes me around 30 to get home hammering the whole way. I did this 3 times & hope to do it at least Mon-Thurs for the rest of the summer. I figure I'm saving $100+ a month on gas & not putting any extra wear & tear on the truck. PLUS, this is how I'm getting my ride time in now too, training for my mtb races.

Anybody else doing anything different?
