A few years ago I was riding at the Sandy skatepark & took some pics. A friend who had his own website back east & was also sponsored by S&M, took alook at my pic & asked if he could use it on his front page. Little did I know that at the time his website (r.i.p.) was the biggest site east of the Rockies next to BMX Mania. It was up for about 3 weeks. I had Chris from S&M call me one night & ask how I liked my bike. I said I loved it so he sent me another race 20", a cruiser & a dirt jumper for free! Well, this last part ain't excatly true....

This pic was shown to me by Ian about a year ago & it instantly became one of my fav's out of the thousands I have. I really don't even remember this race but I should have. I do remember having some good battles with Ian that summer before I turned Ex. Just look at him, & HE complains about my elbows!! First turn at Rad Canyon.

7 years ago this month, 1998 ABA Winternationals.
Greg Romero (Robinson) & Neal Wood (DK) go at it right on the track. What led up to this was Romero was giving Wood, who is from the U.K., crap for the way he talked & teasing him about the English dental habits. Well Woods got back at him on the track & after some heated moto's, Romero snapped & in the middle of a moto threw his bike into his on-coming moto after being run off the track. His bike took out a few other riders, Woods stopped & a fight ensued with Romero getting the short end of the stick. Romero was booed off the track (I was there), made a public apoligy over the loudspeaker & the ABA suspended him for awhile. Ah yes, the good 'ol days!

Side Hack racing was very popular in the 70's & early 80's while the So Cal downhill tracks were open.

The NBA Coliseum races in So Cal. These things were put on at halftime shows at the L.A. stadium in the 70's. Could you imagine doing that now at let's say a Utes game!? They set up wooden jumps with no landing & the races themselves were actually quite long. Iv'e got a ton of old footage from these races.

I'm keeping this topic all 70's & very early 80's for awhile now. I'm going to post a few pic's up for some lurkers in here & you won't be disappointed! Some classic's from the early days of Utah BMX will really open your eyes. Stay tuned.

Sweet pics Bruce. I use to ride the "U" when I lived in Quartz Hill, Ca. (81-85). I think my mom still has some pics of me jumping it at 12 yrs old. Way to bring back the memories. I doubt it's still there? Bubba probably has his house on that hill by now.

Is it a Torker? I thought it may be a R&R or other 3-T (twin-top-tuber).
