Okay guys here's your challenge. Below is a famous saying from Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar. What I want to know is how each person interprets it and what it means to them. Okay guys, here we go:

________________________________________________________

Cowards die many times before their deaths-
The Valiant never taste of death but once-
Of all the wonders I yet have heard-
It seems most strange that me should fear-
Seeing that death, a necessary end-
Will come when it will come-

________________________________________________________

It seems really simple at first, but the last few lines throw me off.....any ideas?

I enjoyed Shakespeare in high school. I saved all my interpretations. This is part of something we had to memorize. I must say I don't miss it. I don't miss Mrs. Kempton either. She was evil...yet nice enough to give me an A.

I think it means I need to get on my bike and ride even faster, and don't be a coward about jumping the big double! :)

Dani, Great idea for getting help on your homework. The way I read it....

The man is known by many to be valiant(brave). He sees himself this way but may have never thought about death. Thinking about it now, he realizes that it is a fear he has, one he must deal with.

That’s the fun of literature, putting into your words what Shakespeare is saying

The way I interpret it....well I'll explain it in BMXer terms:

A man (rider) is known by how fast he rides and how often he wins. If he rides fast and hard and works at it- he will never taste the bitter taste of defeat. But if he continually fails, then he will often taste the bitterness of losing and will also be bitter- But why be bitter when you can have victory? Why fear winning, It will happen and needs to happen.

.....okay, so that was kinda cheezy, but thats how i interpret it....

Very well put. It doesn't matter how you look at it, there is never a wrong answer. You have to know for sure that is how you see it. Great job Dani Gurl! Don't look at it for a few weeks, then look at it again. I bet you'll see it differently.

New Ceasar Interpretation of the quote from earlier: (I had written this down in one of my school notebooks and just found it. I think it's from September or something.)

People who fear losing (like me) lose even before the race starts
People who don't (for example Robby Patterson) win even before the race starts
It's a miracle that I can still qualify, because I fear losing so much.
And losing, a nessicary defeat, will come when it comes
