Flying with a BMX Bike

Postby thebmxlife » Thu Mar 19, 2009 2:18 pm

I have seen people pack a bmx bike in a Ogio golf bag. I need to take a Pro XXL 20" bike
on a plane. What kind of bag will work. Anyone know? Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I think most airlines do not charge for the monster bags as long as your under the weight limit. We had to remove a thing or two to get under the fifty lbs one time

It is just the weight you have to worry about. I have taken my bike in the Ogio monster bag 20+ times never an issue. I recommend checking your bags in online that way when you get there they jsut print the tags weigh it and your done. I take the forks and front wheel in another bag ( FLy Racing Vault ) and pad it up nice with my clothes and that combo works nice
Follow the fanny pack to the finish

It's not just weight you have to worry about. I'm flying Delta tomorrow and their requirements are under 50 lbs and under 62 linear inches.....meaning LxWxH.

Delta is pretty firm on standard luggage rules but the rules for sporting goods, especially for golf clubs, are a bit more leanient.

Delta golf bag rule -
One golf bag is acceptable up to 50 pounds as a checked bag. If the bag exceeds 50 pounds, excess baggage fees will apply. The outside linear dimensions may exceed 80 inches and no excess baggage fees will apply. All other standard baggage charges apply.

Golf clubs will be accepted as checked baggage under the following conditions:

The golf bag is packaged within a hardshell case.
The golf bag is packaged within a soft sided golf club travel bag after the customer signs a limited release.

I have flown with my Monster bag numerous times with no issues. Just dont say anything about having a bike in the bag and you will be fine.

Happy Travels!

Hope I'm not necroposting too bad here... but...

Why not buy one of these and support a great 'bike' company instead of a 'golf' company.
They even put the word "GOLF" on the bag.... lol.

And, no, I'm in no way affiliated with DK... but they do make some cool, affordable stuff!
