Rad Canyons track director just informed me that as of Yesterday Utah has 3 districts. The districts are as follows: Ut01 is northern Utah everything north of I-80 and all of summit county- approx 150 riders. UT02 is Salt Lake county , i-80 south to Nephi- approx 500 riders. And UT-03 is Nephi south to the boarder- approx 150 riders. Those who have new districts will get new cards starting next week from the ABA. More info and a map of the changes will be available at this weekends indoor races!

You mean I don't get to steal Barton's plate# away again this year? :(

Seems like the ABA is starting to act like the NBL with smaller expert classes (old guy age groups), and now smaller districts? UT01 hasn't even had a track for the past 4 seasons. I remember back in the day, racking up 5500 point in a year- to get # 167 in UT01 with about 1800 riders.

I'm curious if any of you in UT02 feel like this is unfair - you guys have 500 riders while 1&3 have 150. I guess it only matters if your chasing a 5-20 #plate, as I would expect most of the top 5 guys will still have similar points. Did they split it so unevenly because they assume Red Hills (UT03) and Legacy (UT01) will add more riders than Rad over the next years ?

I agree with everything you said there Justin. I guess the other districts better get busy recruiting.

I remember back (I'll have to look it up) around the beginning of the 85' season when they went with 2 districts there was a sense of pride belonging to the "harder & deeper" district. Seems to me it was basically north vs. south as Utah County had a huge rider base at the time & it created, at least in my mind even more of a competition in the 17 & over class.

Overall I think it gives the riders out of the Wasatch front a chance to compete for a #1 plate.

Without digging out my old ABA Action, points ending 1985 with 2 districts for the 1st time I have to say off the top of my head Dale Yohe #1 in Ut-1 & Dallas Edwards #1 Ut-2.
I'll confirm that tomorrow.
